Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer was punched at Fourth Street Live on Saturday night, according to the LMPD, who are investigating the incident.
LMPD spokesperson Angela Ingram said Fischer is doing fine.
Louisville Police released several photos of the suspect they believe punched Fischer, and encouraged anyone with information to call the departments anonymous tip line at 502-574-5673 or send info to the LMPD crime portal.
In a statement on Sunday, Mayors office spokesperson Jessica Wethington said Fischer had resumed normal duties and that no changes had been made to his public schedule. She added that the mayor uses a security detail and that he was accompanied by security while at Fourth Street Live on Saturday night.
While its not appropriate to comment on specifics of that detail, it is always being evaluated and adjusted as needed, said Wethington.
Video obtained by local news stations over the weekend showed a man approaching Fischer at Fourth Street Live and delivering a punch towards Fischers upper body. The mayor can be seen falling backwards. A man in Fischers vicinity chased the assailant before walking back towards where Fischer was.
Speaking to WLKY on Sunday, Fischer said: Occasionally in life, things happen. So when they happen, you know, you get knocked down, you gotta get back up and keep going.
The assault on Fischer, who will leave office when his term expires next year, comes four months after Democratic mayoral nominee Craig Greenberg survived an assassination attempt at his Butchertown campaign office.
