Reflections is the perfect title for this three-disc retrospective of Graham Nash’s nearly 50-year career. Chronologically, the disc starts with the work he did with The Hollies, then with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and finally his solo work. Unfortunately, the passionate, visceral music of the young Nash eclipses the insipid, uninspired work of his middle age. The liner notes are fascinating, written by Nash himself. There’s a brief autobiography, after which he reminisces about each of the 64 tracks, taking us from dropping acid in a church to the backseat of Stephen Stills’s “Dently” to Joni Mitchell’s living room, all within a few pages. For its strengths and weaknesses, Nash’s journey is well worth the reflection.
