This Jeffersonville home along the river was built around 1893 for John H. Hoffman, the owner of the Monongahela Coal and Coke Co., a railroad and coal transportation company.

The Captain John H. Hoffman House as it’s known is now for sale for $899,000, down from $949,000 when it was first listed in December.

The house has many original architectural details, according to its Zillow listing, including stained glass and beveled glass windows, parquet floors and antique light fixtures.  

There is a winding, grand staircase in the foyer, with a reading nook tucked underneath it, which contains built in benches and its own fireplace. Another exciting,“hidden” area is the round, turret room on the third floor. 

On the first floor, you’ll find a parlor/music room, a formal dining room, and a sitting room/library room. There are modern amenities, too: an updated kitchen and bathrooms. 

The second floor contains the four bedrooms and a media/game room with sweeping views of the river.
