Over one hundred University of Louisville students and staff members took to campus to march against the ongoing crisis in Gaza on Nakba Day. May 15, 2024 marked the 76th anniversary of the destruction of the Palestinian society and homeland, and the permanent displacement of a majority of the Palestinian people.
The student group that organized the protests say that this march is just the beginning. They plan to return in the fall more powerful, strategic, steadfast, and determined.
They have clear demands of the university, listed as follows on a recent Instagram post:
1) DISCLOSE all of UofL’s investments and what funds make up UofL’s 900 million dollar endowment
2) DIVEST from all Israeli companies and companies that support Israel
3) CUT PARTNERSHIPS with weapon manufacturers and war profiteers on campus
4) END all study abroad programs with Israel
Here are some photos captured at the march by photographer Melody Peace.
