10 things to do under $5 this week in Louisville (8/8)

WEDNESDAY

Wings Denied, Artwork For The Blind, Alaya Modern Cult Records $5 | 7:30 p.m. Celebrate hump day this week with these three unique bands. All three put their own spin on metal, mixing it with other genres and styles. The show is all ages and music starts at 8 p.m. Royal Wednesdays Hip Hop: 1 Year Anniversary Kaiju Free | 9 p.m. This month’s performances include Tiara Paye (aka Tiara P), Ant Banks, Marcys Cino Fresh Macon (aka Cino Fressh) and Montrey Deal (aka Deuce Juice). WkndWithTez Podcast will be hosting the event. So head over every Wednesday to celebrate hump day with fellow Louisvillians, as well as a ton of hip-hop artists.

THURSDAY

The “+” Trio: Charles Rivera, Nick Layman, Zach Kennedy Kaiju $5 | 9 p.m. Come out to celebrate the debut of a brand new trio. It will be a night of “new compositions” and “improvisations.” Music starts at 10 p.m.

Whiskey Hollow, The Empty Room, Jason D. Thompson, Deviance Mag Bar Free | 10 p.m. Get your live music fix and support some local artists while you’re at it. Whiskey Hollow is a local group that classifies itself as “a blues-infused rock and roll band.” And the event is free, so double bonus. The Human Project Open Gallery Free | 8 p.m. If you’re looking for something different, this is probably your opportunity. Come check out this “revolving and ever expanding collective of psychedelic musicians and artists.” It’s live improvisational music. And it is free, so no harm in giving it a go.

FRIDAY

Season of Arrows, The Mound Builders, Blind Scryer Modern Cult Records Free | 8 p.m. Celebrate the beginning of the weekend with three rad punk/metal/doom bands. You might not be celebrating, but maybe you can get out some of the week’s frustrations with a headbanger or two. Sex Snobs, Idol Mind, White Knight Kaiju $5 | 9 p.m. Sex Snobs is a rock band hailing from Oklahoma City. They classify themselves as alternative rock. Check out their catchy tunes along with Louisville native Idol Mind. This guy creates some great pop-dance music.  Free Outdoor Concerts (1) (2) (3) Locations vary Free; Times vary There is always a free concert to go to on a Friday in the 'Ville. This week is no different.  First, we have the FridayFest Concert Series presented by the Louisville Metro Council. This week, The Monarchs will play at Highview Park at 6 p.m. Second, is Buffalo Rodeo with Voodoo Economics. They're going to be at Bicentennial park at 6:30 p.m. Third up is 100% Poly with guest, The Rumors. All three of these shows are free.
