Louisville’s first and only official roller derby league, Louisville Roller Derby, is looking for new skaters, referees and volunteers to join their 2025 New Recruit Session starting Feb. 27.
The 12-week program welcomes adults 18 and older with no experience required. It teaches the basic skills and safety techniques needed to hit the track.
Interested skaters are encouraged to attend a Meet and Greet Information Session on Feb. 6 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Goodfellas Pizzeria (642 Baxter Ave.) with their gear and any questions they have.
“We’re so excited to kick off our new recruit session,” said Head Coach Jessica Carpenter, known by her roller derby alias Kim Fandango. “Louisville Roller Derby is all about inclusivity and empowering skaters of all backgrounds — [we] can’t wait to see new faces join the league and bring their energy to the track!”
Session Details:
- Location: Champ’s Rollerdrome, 9851 La Grange Rd, Louisville, KY
- Practice Schedule: Every Thursday, February 27 – May 15
- Cost: $40 per month (Financial assistance is available.)
- Requirements: Must be 18 years or older. Skaters need to have their own helmets, mouth guards, and, preferably, skates. Other equipment is available to borrow.
How It Works: Over the course of 12 weeks, participants will learn foundational roller derby skills and progress at their own pace. Upon completion, recruits will be invited to join the league to continue working on their skills.
Gender Policy:Any cis woman, trans woman, intersex woman, and/or gender expansive individual may skate with a WFTDA charter team if women’s flat track roller derby is the version and composition of roller derby with which they most closely identify. All Identities are welcome to Referee, NSO, or Volunteer.
