Maybe its outrage over an ongoing war, fear about the failing economy or that hockey MILF Sarah Palin. Whatever the reason, a record number of Kentuckians registered to vote this year. As of mid-September, 2.9 million voters had registered in the commonwealth. If you havent bothered registering to cast your ballot by now, its too late slacker the deadline was Monday.

U.S. Sen. Mitch Please Dont Ditch Me McConnell has backed out of a televised debate he previously agreed to, saying hes too busy back in Washington. The longtime Republican senator was scheduled to debate Democratic opponent Bruce Lunsford on KET Oct. 27. The camera-shy incumbent also has declined to face Lunsford in a televised debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kentucky and another sponsored by Centre College.

Its taken months of criticism and a federal investigation of a former employee, but it seems the University of Louisville finally is taking responsibility for past inaction at least temporarily. The university is creating an interim office to help resolve conflicts among employees in response to the saga of Robert Felner, the former dean now under investigation for possibly pocketing a shit-load of grant money. During his tenure at the school, Felner apparently racked up 31 grievances, but never was disciplined.

Voting no on the first proposed bailout bill, U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., changed course last week, voting in favor of rescuing Wall Street with $700 billion. Just hours before casting his vote, the congressman told local media, I hate the bill Im going to vote for today. So why, John, why? Perhaps its all a part of politics, but that certainly doesnt make it any easier to swallow.
