Correction: In an earlier version of this story, LEO Weekly reported that zip code 40210 had donated $200 million between two people. The Washington Post incorrectly posted those donation numbers on its site, which we reported. The correct donation amount is $500 total between five people.
With the election weeks away, the amount of money pouring into the campaigns of both Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump has been closer than many expected.
Not only has the dollar amount been high, but the number of donors has skyrocketed overall, and especially for Harris ever since she entered the race. But closer to home, the amount of money is interestingly close in a few zip codes in what many see as a “blue city,” where most voters vote Democrat historically, though the rest of the state moves to vote more Republican.
A new map, posted recently by The Washington Post, aggregated the donor data of every zip code in America, and zip codes around Louisville are interesting, to say the least.
The following information has now been changed on The Washington Post’s site:
To the West End of Louisville, a tidal wave of money for… Trump? With 61 donors for the Harris campaign totaling $10,000, many would see this as fairly normal for this area of the city.
However, with only two donors, Trump’s campaign received not $200,000, not $1 million, but $200 million dollars from zip code 40210. That is 1000 times more donor money than any other zip code for Trump’s campaign.
One of the most densely populated areas in the city, zip code 40207, or the St. Matthews area, was the most striking in terms of even amounts of donations to both candidates.
With 1,228 donors to the Harris campaign, donations totaled to over $200,000. For the Trump campaign, 177 donors, totaling… $200,000, a tie in donations but nearly 1/10th the number of donors.
Further south, at 40205 in the same neighborhood, we see a starkly different picture. Only 80 people donated to Trump as of Oct. 24, totaling over $10,000. For the Harris campaign? Over $400,000 from 1,539.
But if you added up every single other zip code in Jefferson County, it would total $523,100 for Trump, which is .003% of the total amount that was donated from zip code 40210 in Park Hill close to the Shively neighborhood. No other zip code came close from the Harris campaign either, with the closest zip code, 40205, again just reaching over $400,000 alone.
There is no clear indication as to who donated so much money, or why so much money came from this neighborhood, but no other neighborhood in the city donated so much money to Former President Trump’s campaign, let alone zip code neighbors 40208 ($4,000) and 40211 ($500).
