Put your best (white) face forward

Failed congressional candidate Everett Corley, among those fighting to keep the Confederate memorial at UofL, posted on Facebook a photo of anti-statue activist Ricky Jones beside one of a dead Confederate soldier. His description: “Here’s who lost today and here’s Ricky Jones, that damn black bastard who won.” Later, Corley said of his post, “I believe I used ill-chosen words and I regret having made them, although I don’t regret disliking the hell out of Ricky Jones,” according to WHAS11.

Still too much

The Courier-Journal and WDRB reported that UofL President James Ramsey was paid nearly $2.8 million in total compensation from the university foundation in 2014, based on tax returns. In an email to LEO to dispute WDRB’s story, board Chairman Dr. Robert Hughes said, “Dr. Ramsey’s corrected compensation for this same 2014 taxable year is $1,593,137, the bulk of which is in the form of deferred compensation and contributions to retirement, a practice that university foundations commonly use to retain top performing presidents.”  We say: Whichever amount is right — it is still too much for a president whose good works are outweighed by scandal, opaqueness and arrogance.

Kentucky can spell

According to the Estately real estate blog, the most Googled questions in Kentucky, as compared to the rest of the nation, are: “What are jorts? / How to pass a drug test? / What is catfishing? / How to make a baby? / What is hemp? / Who is Siri? / Which side is your appendix on?” We say the list must be bogus — all of the questions are spelled correctly.

Chicken needs to cross the road

Guess what, guys?! A restaurant serving fried chicken plans to take El Camino’s space on Bardstown Road. Finally, we get a place to eat fried chicken! Maybe it will have “craft” beer and bourbon!
