Nach your average Germantown bar
The Bar Belle news desk has been quite cluttered lately, so it is time to clean house. Some new bars have popped up about town, and so far, I have been able to make it to only a few. If you’re a new bar, or you know of one, drop me a line and I’ll be there. New bars mean new opportunities — a fresh start, a clean slate … and a new tab.
The Nachbar (969 Charles St., 637-4377) took over the defunct Charlie’s Tavern spot in Germantown a few months ago. With each visit I’ve made, the harder it is to find a spot at the bar. The word is definitely out, and for good reason. After a major scrubbing and removal of dozens of neon lights and all references to Dale Jr., the Nachbar offers a hip environment, an even hipper jukebox and a very impressive beer list — both in bottle and on tap. It’s got Highlands bar inventory with Germantown watering hole prices.
The NV Tavern (1202 Bardstown Road, 452-6101) recently opened in the old Cribstone Pub/Slick’s space on Bardstown Road. I’ve only been once, and the space is still quite small, but with a few tables scattered out front, it seems to be the new place to gather to bitch about the smoking ban. The NV offers a full bar, and, their specialty, bourbon tea, is quite tasty.

$1 Beers!

As prices and personal debt rise, it’s good to know you can always find a bargain somewhere in this city. You can get $1 bottle domestics at the semi-new The Deli (2216 Dundee Road, 413-5140) Monday-Friday from 4-7 p.m. Longshot Tavern (2232 Frankfort Ave., 899-7898) also has $1 beers on Wednesdays from 5 p.m.-midnight. And you can get $1 drafts down at Slugger Field on Thursdays (5:30-7 p.m.) when the Bats have home game, which they do this week. The best steal, however, is at Qdoba (1500 Bardstown Road, 454-3380) in the Highlands. On Friday and Saturday nights throughout the summer, you can get $1 bottle domestics and $1.50 imports from 5-11 p.m. Deal.
