TARC and Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) have agreed to a second year of their partnership to lease TARC coach operators to JCPS, providing additional support for student transportation during the 2025–2026 school year.
Originally launched in summer 2024, the agreement allowed JCPS to use up to 70 TARC drivers. Year Two of the deal scales that number down to 25 drivers, depending on TARC’s ability to fully staff its scheduled fixed route service.
“TARC is extremely appreciative of our hard-working coach operators who are willing to step up again to make this partnership work,” said TARC Executive Director Ozzy Gibson. “I also want to acknowledge and thank the leadership at ATU Local 1447 and JCPS for their hard work in finalizing this agreement.”
“We’re excited about extending our agreement with TARC for another school year,” said Dr. Brian Yearwood, JCPS superintendent. “This collaboration is providing benefits to the entire community by ensuring all eligible JCPS students have transportation to school and professional TARC drivers retain their jobs and benefits. It’s a win for all of us.”
The continuation of the partnership also means TARC will be able to avoid coach operator layoffs during the 2025–2026 school year.
