Citing rising worries from Kentuckians about Musk’s efforts endangering key government services, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) is pushing further to limit Musk’s influence over federal agencies.
Rep. McGarvey observed, “Elon Musk and DOGE are operating in the shadows, unaccountable for the lives they are impacting.” “We have hundreds of calls from Kentuckians who are pretty frightened about Elon Musk sledgehammering federal programs they depend on, such as the Social Security Administration and VA.”
McGarvey stressed that his priorities are guaranteeing responsibility and defending government entities. Though this is not about efficiency, he stated, “I’ll work with anyone to increase efficiency and cut waste.” “This is about following rules protecting our sensitive data like Social Security numbers from being leaked and ensuring Elon Musk is not padding his own pockets with government contracts at our expense.”
McGarvey is cosponsoring three measures aimed at solving these difficulties, such as guaranteeing ethical standards in government operations and stronger control over Musk’s relationship with federal agencies.
Act Relating to Taxpayer Data Protection
The Taxpayer Data Protection Act would prevent illicit access to the Treasury Department’s Payment Systems. These payment systems handle federal disbursements including Social Security checks, tax refunds and payments to veterans. The proposal improves protections to defend private taxpayer information by aiming to discourage illicit people or enterprises from accessing government payment systems.
Stop Musk Act
The Stop Musk Act would criminalize any action taken against federal employees who dispute or speak out against acts involving Musk. The goal is to keep whistleblowers safe and ensure that government professionals can report concerns about ethical or legal breaches without fear of losing their employment or suffering other forms of professional reprisal.
Ending DOGE Conflicts Act
The Ending DOGE Conflicts Act would require Special Government Employees (SGEs) like Musk to openly reveal their financial interests. The bill would also establish a review system through the independent Office of Government Ethics to assess potential conflicts of interest.
