Plain Brown Rapper: For Springston and Yarmuth

Of the three candidates for Mayor, I know Jerry Abramson. In fact, I have known him for more than two decades and have touted to others his immense capability as an urban executive, his willingness to listen and walk among the common people, and his sincere humility despite his talents and overweening charm. I recently interviewed Jerry for “Carl Brown’s Reality,” a WYCS television show that airs every Saturday morning at 11 a.m., repeated Sundays at 6:30 p.m. and Mondays at 8 p.m. I’ve done scores of interview shows — well more than 100 — during my life as a local agent provocateur, and, frankly, I have never had a better interview.
Jerry will be re-elected. That’s a given. Jerry will win with a wallop, and I truly hope he will aspire to statewide office. He would make a great governor.

Unless he runs against my brother (I have no brother), I will endorse him heartily at that time.
I also taped a show with Kelly Downard, the Republican running for Mayor. As a hardcore, dedicated Republican precinct captain, I would not be at all upset if Kelly makes a good showing. The man is awesome, and I predict he will be mayor someday (after Tom Owen) … but, as stated above, Jerry’s gonna win this time out, so a vote for Downard may well be wasted as well.

Enter Ed Springston. This guy is sharp as a tack and a working-class hero. This assembly-line worker at Ford has guts, great intelligence and undoubtedly would stand up for the common man. He runs as an Independent, and those registered Independent should vote the party line. Though I have quit smoking (for several hours now), I nevertheless believe that his contrary stance on the smoking ban is the correct one. Unlike the other two, Springston defends both free choice and economist/philosopher Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” of capitalism.

Since Jerry will win re-election anyway, let’s send the REPUBLICRATS a message. Vote Independent.

John Yarmuth for Congress
I have known Donna Mancini for years. I have partied at Donna’s house. She’s smart and strong and has a nimble mind. I consider myself a Libertarian Republican, and Donna is my friend.
As a (usually) loyal Republican, I have supported Anne every time she’s run for Congress. Till now …
Enter John Yarmuth, my former editor and dear friend. In terms of issues, John Yarmuth stands for:
• Healthcare every Kentucky family can afford.
• Raising the minimum wage now — and no pay raise for Congress till
it’s done.
• Protecting Social Security and Medicare and fighting every Bush effort to privatize Social Security.
• Fighting for more federal funding for education to raise teacher salaries, build new schools and lower class size.
• A real plan to deliver energy independence and lower gas prices.
• One-hundred percent support for stem cell research to help cure killer diseases like Alzheimer’s and diabetes.
I agree with John on each and every one of these issues.
Now as to this BIG ISSUE of Yarmuth changing his mind from time to time: The Rapper has two observations that are, quite frankly, diamond sharp:
1) So John changed his mind from time to time. Big deal. Should we chase him down, stab him with pitchforks and burn the body? Nay, nay, friends, a quote springs to mind: No lesser light than Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his “Self-Reliance,” said: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.” ’Nuff said.
2) Query: Has Anne ever changed her mind? Here she finds herself on the horns of a dilemma. Either she hasn’t and is thus a dullard and a pawn of Bush, since new information flows in all the time; or she has changed her mind and is thus no better than John on the CONSISTENCY issue.
Besides, these are versus actual votes of Anne. The fact that John has changed his mind from time to time is a plus — this means he’ll see both sides of an issue before voting on Congressional legislation.
But anyway, I’m Carl Brown, Louisville’s Plain Brown Rapper, and that’s just my own damn opinion. If you don’t like it, sue me. Just be sure to vote the way I tell you to vote. Thanks.
