With Roe v Wade in danger of being overturned, hundreds of Louisvillians took to the streets Wednesday night to rally in support of abortion rights.
Protesters gathered at the steps of Louisville Metro Hall at 5 p.m., bringing signs with them. There were speeches, including one from Black Lives Matter Louisville organizer Chanelle Helm.
The gathering came following a leak late Monday of a draft Supreme Court majority opinion that would overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v Wadedecision that federally protects womens abortion rights. Kentucky has a “trigger law” that would automatically make abortion illegal if Roe v Wade were overturned.
There were anti-abortion counter-protesters at Wednesday’s rally, too. Pro-abortion advocates formed a wall around them, separating them from the rest of the crowd.
