Blessings in a Backpack, Pack The Sack 2024

School-aged children are often faced with what is known as the weekend gap; the time between Friday afternoon and Monday morning when obtaining a healthy and viable meal might be difficult. Blessings in a Backpack helps to ensure that students receive nutritious food solutions during the weekend so they can return to school with a healthy mind and heart, ready to learn.

On March 8th at The Olmstead, the annual organizational fundraiser, Pack The Sack returns, bringing local Food Network stars Josh Moore (Volare) and Jackie Joseph (Best Baker in America) and local chef James Moran (Bob’s Steak and Chop House) to the table. Learn how to create an appetizer from a live demonstration by Chef Brandi Alexander that will go along with a custom cocktail created by mixologist Kyle Wallace from Heaven Hill during the event. When asked by LEO Weekly about the fundraiser, Kim Holsclaw, Managing Director of the Blessings in a Backpack Louisville Chapter said, “Once again, we’re thrilled to host Pack the Sack in support of our local students here in our community.” She added, “Seeing our supporters come together for a night of fun and purpose is incredibly heartwarming. We’re especially grateful to the amazing local chefs who have joined us, offering their culinary talents and continuous support for our Louisville Chapter and the students we serve.”

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in silent auctions, mingle with the chefs, and even try their hand at a live auction. All proceeds from the fundraiser go towards helping Blessings in a Backpack succeed at ensuring children do not go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals and communities to take action. De de Cox, a longtime supporter of the organization, stated to LEO Weekly, “You would be surprised how those little cereal bowls / spaghetti bowls / etc., make a huge difference. We are all hurting, but our children are suffering from lack of nutrition. It only takes a second, a minute, an hour, or a day to purchase some food and drop it off at the blessing school site or even to their corporate offices. But with Blessings in a Backpack – we all can make a difference.”
