The biggest fight on Derby Day will probably be the altercation when my neighbor, Mike Murphy, gets into a battle with his wife, Mona, on the way out of the Downs, as they discuss Mike’s inevitable betting losses. But the second-biggest fight of the day, for those who admire the pugilistic arts, will be televised at Champion’s Sports Bar in the Marriott Downtown, where management tells us that there’ll be no cover charge for ringside seats for the televised pro super-welterweight bout at 10 p.m. between Oscar “Golden Boy” De La Hoya and Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga.

The Melting Pot, Louisville’s shrine to melted cheese and chocolate, is celebrating its second anniversary throughout April and May, and the suburban eatery’s new owners — John and Karen Barnett, who recently took over the Louisville restaurant after operating a Melting Pot property in Missouri — are celebrating with a “Free Fondue for a Year” contest: Win the drawing, and you’re entitled to a free monthly dinner for yourself and your sweetie for a full 12 months. The runner-up gets fondue for three months.
