Its a big Buc-ee-ing deal.
The first Buc-ees gas station in Kentucky opened today off of Interstate 75 in Richmond at 6 a.m.
The Texas-based chain goes big, just like its home state state, and this Buc-ees is no different. It resembles a Walmart more than your typical convenience shop, occupying more than 53,000-square feet and containing 120 places to fuel up.
Buc-ees is known for its food, and the Richmond station will sell Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, kolaches and more, including their signature Beaver Nuggets (caramel-coated corn puffs.)
Buc-ees owns 35 stores in Texas and started expanding to other states in 2019. Ground broke on its Kentucky project in 2021. There are already plans to open more Buc-ees in the Bluegrass, including one in Smiths Grove outside of Bowling Green and another in Oak Grove near Clarksville.
The Richmond Buc-ees is expected to generate 175 jobs with starting pay beginning well above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k and three weeks paid vacation, according to a press release.
