Mayor Craig Greenberg held his weekly briefing at the Western Library on May 27, announcing a summer packed with free educational and wellness opportunities for youth and families across the city.
Greenberg launched two major initiatives: the return of the Cultural Pass and the Summer Reading Program. The Cultural Pass provides free admission to more than 45 arts, science, and heritage institutions across Louisville and Southern Indiana for anyone 21 and under. The program runs from May 31 to August 10 and now offers a new Cultural Pass App that lets users browse events, build schedules, and check in directly from their phones.
āThe Cultural Pass program ensures that every young person across Jefferson County can engage in fun, educational activities in unique and safe spaces,ā said Mayor Greenberg. āIt’s proven that children who are exposed to the arts show improved academic performance and develop more creative and innovative thinking.ā
Also returning is the Louisville Free Public Libraryās Summer Reading Program, which rewards kids and teens who read throughout the summer with prizes such as a glow-in-the-dark backpack and passes to local attractions, including the Louisville Bats and Kentucky Science Center.
āEvery year the libraryās Summer Reading Program helps kids and teens stay on reading level by making reading fun and rewarding,ā said the libraryās Interim Executive Director, Barbara Sexton Smith. āThis annual tradition reaches more than 40,000 youth in Louisville Metro, helping to create a habit and love of reading that will last a lifetime.ā
Greenberg also announced the 2025 Mayorthon Race Series, featuring four themed 5K races around the city, including a new course at the University of Louisville. Participants can earn a 90-day Planet Fitness membership and a special Mayorthon Challenge Coin for completing all four.
