In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the launch of the Louisville America250KY Committee’s Grant Program, also known as 250 Lou Grants, which will assist neighborhood nonprofits in creating events and programs honoring Louisville’s history, culture and local tales.

The grants are a part of Louisville’s involvement in the national America 250 commemoration, which commemorates 250 years since the US was founded. The program will provide funding to local nonprofits so they can develop inclusive, community-focused projects that showcase Louisville’s contributions to the larger American narrative.

“As we approach the 250th anniversary of our nation, Louisville has an opportunity to reflect on our unique role in the American story and bring our community together around that shared history,” Mayor Greenberg said in a statement. “The 250 Lou Grants will support local organizations as they create inclusive, meaningful programs that honor our past, celebrate our diversity, and help shape our shared future.”

America250KY Committee’s Goal

The goal of the Louisville America250KY Committee is to highlight Louisville’s lasting influence on the American journey in honor of the country’s semiquincentennial. In order to promote civic pride, involvement, and connection throughout Jefferson County, the committee places a strong emphasis on neighborhood-level engagement and programming.

The 250 Lou Grants are only available for projects that are located within Louisville Metro and must be finished by June 30, 2026. Projects that are eligible must support the committee’s goals of fostering connections, increasing community involvement, and honoring Louisville’s place in American history.

The program will offer a total of $48,000 in grants, with each grant having a $5,000 cap. Nonprofit organizations must be registered in order to apply. The deadline for grant applications is February 27, 2026, at 5 p.m.

In July 2026, grant recipients will be expected to submit an activity report and a financial report that includes records of all project-related costs and payments.
