A local radio host accused of assaulting his girlfriend has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge second degree disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
The charges against Andrew Drew Deener will be dropped if he meets a bevy of requirements, including a domestic violence intervention program, no contact with the victim and an alcohol assessment, according to court records. He must also avoid any other charges for nine months.
Deener, 49, was placed on leave after his original arrest from his duties as vice president of ESPN680 and the host of The Deener Show.
Deener released a statement today saying:
“Today I am taking full responsibility for my actions and have pled guilty to disorderly conduct, a charge which accurately describes my conduct that night. I regret that I caused this situation and am very sorry for how I acted and things I said. I behaved disrespectfully, disorderly and in a manner that was not in line with how I should ever conduct myself. I am taking steps to better myself, including receiving ongoing professional counseling. I regret the embarrassment this has caused to all impacted by my behavior. Thank you to everyone for your patience and grace to let the legal process play out. I am sorry. All I can do from here is work to be better.”
According to the March arrest citation, Deeners girlfriend told Louisville Police officers that they were having a verbal altercation in the parking lot of Roosters on Shelbyville Road when Deener grabbed her head and slammed it into the side of a car.
Deener was charged with fourth degree domestic assault, a class A misdemeanor. A $1,000 bond was posted to get him out of jail.
