A newly released study shows that Americans have picked up two new habits since the Ebola breakout — gambling and Klonopin — while travel spending has seen a significant decline.
Americans continue to show strong interest in both booze and porn, but the threat of Ebola has led to greater risk-taking and, simultaneously, the use of depressants and other anti-anxiety medication — most notably gambling and Klonopin.
The obvious loser in the study was American spending on travel, due to fear of contracting Ebola, or using it as an excuse to not spend 10 hours in the car with your family. Used books have also seen a modest decline, a symptom of consumers’ aversion to not knowing who touched that book last and not wanting to spend their final moments of life reading.
