Kroger will close its store at 4211 South Third Street in Louisville by the end of July. The decision follows the company’s recent announcement to shut down 60 stores across the United States over the next year and a half.

The South Third Street store is the first confirmed closure in Kentucky. Kroger has not said if any other locations in the state will close. The company operates 35 stores across the commonwealth.

This news comes as several other Louisville Kroger stores face public attention for health violations. Inspectors found signs of rodents at three locations, including Holiday Manor, Goss Avenue, and LaGrange Road. Those stores were either partly shut down or temporarily closed and are now receiving weekly health inspections.

Kroger has not linked the closure of the South Third Street store to those health concerns. Still, the timing has raised questions about how the company is managing problems locally while trying to cut costs across the country.

No other store closures in Kentucky have been announced so far.
