Oh, Boyd
As last year’s three-song exhibition Aerial Roots confirmed, C.J. Boyd can bend the strings of a bass to form unnatural, otherworldly soundscapes. He performs Thursday, Nov. 11, at Monkey Wrench (1025 Barret Ave., 582-2433) on the heels of Alternate Roots. That live album was recorded in Boone, N.C., where Boyd tried to play Aerial start to finish but ended up someplace else. Listen at cjboyd.bandcamp.com. Showtime is 9 p.m. R. Keenan Lawler and Joe Dutkiewicz join.
Cover Nunes
Uke songwriter Julia Nunes, who opens for Ben Kweller Friday, Nov. 12, at Zanzabar, likes to cover N’Sync and John Legend, “Build Me Up Buttercup” to “It’s Raining Men,” but her own jams are just as worthy. She’s got an original set out now called I Think You Know. Listen at www.junumusic.com. Showtime is 9 p.m. Tickets are $15.
K. records
K. Tranza, which features former Instant Camera guitarist Matt Langley, appears on Aqua Buddha Drunkard, the new compilation released digitally this month by boutique music publicity firm Crash Avenue. Find it at www.crash-avenue.com.
