The Kaleidoscope Family Festival will be at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens on Saturday, August 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families in Louisville can enjoy the beauty of nature.
The free community event brings together six local groups, including the Louisville Nature Center, the Louisville Water Company, the Parklands and the Jefferson County Master Gardeners, to celebrate how plants affect our lives in many ways.
Rhythm Science Sound, a Louisville duet that turns plant signals into music, is one of the highlights. There are also hands-on activities like constructing bugs out of plant materials, producing art with natural dyes and arranging flowers in old pickle jars. The Kentuckiana Herb Society will have an “herb petting zoo,” with instructional stations that teach people how to grow herbal drinks and get rid of mosquitoes naturally.
Local vendors will sell things related to plants, such as dried herbs and teas, art and jewelry. Guests can also snag complimentary popcorn and snow cones, as well as food and drinks from 721 Mint It Herb & Juice Bar, Khalil’s and Apocalypse Brew Works.
Admission is free, with a suggested $5 donation. More details are available at waterfrontgardens.org.
