Home of the Innocents will hold a topping-off ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 2:30 p.m. The event marks the placement of the final beam, signaling structural completion of a new 76,000-square-foot medical complex care center.
The expanded facility will increase the organization’s long-term care capacity for children and young adults with complex medical needs from 76 to 126 beds.
“This is more than just a construction milestone. This is an opportunity to celebrate progress and a brighter future for those with medical complexities,” said Paul Robinson, president and CEO of Home of the Innocents. “Each beam represents a future filled with comfort, care, and dignity. We’re proud to mark this moment with the community that helped make it possible.”
According to the Kentucky Department of Medicaid Services, more than 11,000 children in the state qualify for nursing facility care, but options for pediatric long-term care are limited.
The new center will allow residents to remain in care past age 21 instead of having to transfer to adult facilities. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2026 or early 2027, with new beds becoming available in phases.
