Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg has chosen Heather Lowe to be the new executive director of the Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL). Lowe will start her job on November 10. She has more than 16 years of experience working in libraries and archives.
“In my time as Mayor I’ve made investing in our libraries a top priority, and we’re building, rebuilding, and improving libraries across our city,” Greenberg said. “We’re on the right track, and we are so excited to have Heather join the LFPL team to help us keep this great work going.”
Lowe has been with the Dallas Public Library for the past 11 years, most recently as interim director. She has a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from UCLA and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
“I’m honored to join a community that values its library and a talented library team so passionate about serving the community,” Lowe said. “Together, we will strengthen Louisville Free Public Library’s legacy of providing access, learning, and connection for every Louisvillian.”
This year has been a milestone for LFPL, with the reopening of the Parkland Library after nearly 40 years, record participation in the summer reading program, $1 million in city-matched funding for new books and materials, and the launch of a new mobile library.
Barbara Sexton Smith was the Interim Executive Director before Lowe.
