Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has issued an emergency suspension of Fire Oven Pizza’s liquor license following an investigation that uncovered underage drinking at the establishment on Thursday, October 2.
“The safety of students and the surrounding community remains our top priority,” said Metro ABC Director Brad Silveria. “We will continue to identify and hold accountable any establishments that fail to comply with state and local alcohol laws.”
After receiving accusations of underage alcohol service, detectives reportedly entered the establishment located at 323 W. Cardinal Blvd., according to a statement from Metro ABC. When cops entered, they saw several children drinking alcohol. As ABC detectives started to verify IDs, others reportedly tried to escape through back exits.
Nine underage people were cited during the operation, and at least one was found to be visibly intoxicated, according to reports from the ABC.
In response, Fire Oven Pizza’s alcohol sales and service were suspended until the case was thoroughly reviewed by Metro ABC, who issued an Emergency Suspension Order (ESO).
Officials say they cited the large number of minors served and the business’s failure to control alcohol consumption as grounds for the immediate suspension.
According to the Louisville Metro ABC, the University of Louisville Police Department and Metro ABC are still collaborating closely to prevent underage drinking and make sure that alcohol regulations are followed during events and nightlife on campus.
