Audrey Cecil, a singer-songwriter from Valley Station, releases her debut on local One Horse Records next Saturday, March 6, at Vernon Club (1575 Story Ave., 584-8460). Heidi Howe and danny flanigan open. The 18-and-over show starts at 8 p.m. and is $5. Written over two years, the album is a collection of semi-autobiographical, acoustic-driven rock. “The goal was to stay as grassroots as possible,” she says. “The things I’m most proud of — no digital instruments and no pitch correction.” There are shades of Cecil’s influences creeping out in the material — Indigo Girls, Tuesday Night Music Club-era Sheryl Crow and Kathleen Edwards. “She is the poster child for singer-songwriters who don’t have these amazing vibrato voices. If you stick with truth and a clean vocal, people are still drawn to truth and honesty.”
Sondre Lerche
Sondre Lerche appears Thursday, Feb. 25, at Zanzabar. 9 p.m., $15. The Norwegian orchestral pop singer returns after performing last year at the Louisville Orchestra’s Strings Attached series. JBM, aka Jesse Marchant, whose music was used in the film “Lovers In A Dangerous Time,” opens the show.
‘Before Lately’
That’s the name of the new seven-song EP by Cheyenne Mize (Arnett Hollow), up now at her Band Camp site, cheyennemarie.bandcamp.com. Mize played all the instruments herself and recorded with Danny Kiely at In Room One. She also has posted the digital version of Among The Gold, her old-time covers album with Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Previously, Kiely recorded and played stand-up bass on Billy’s Funtown Comedown. Mize performs with Maiden Radio, who open for Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Brown Theatre.
