For Gaza
“Voices for Gaza” takes place at 8 p.m. Jan. 23 at The Rudyard Kipling (422 W. Oak St., 636-1311). The event features hip-hop and spoken-word performances, and a $5 donation is suggested. All proceeds go to the Middle East Children’s Alliance, www.mecaforpeace.org.

On Jan. 21, 1965, The Byrds recorded “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and Ritchie Havens was born (1941). Sam Cooke and original INXS singer Michael Hutchence were both born Jan. 22 (Cooke in 1931, Hutchence in 1960).
