Opening their doors on Friday, March 21st at noon, is a new self-help legal clinic that will provide much-needed support to individuals navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system, particularly those seeking expungement of their records.
Located across the street from the Clark County Judicial Center, The Justice Access Ministry (JAM) is a collaborative initiative between Lemme Law Offices and Gilt Edge Baptist Church in New Albany, Indiana. JAM will serve as a vital resource for community members who require assistance in writing and filing expungement petitions. The clinic will also provide guidance on sealing eviction records, addressing driving record issues, and offering general legal consultation.
Attorney Matthew Lemme and Pastor Darrell Nathan spearheaded the initiative, recognizing the need for accessible legal resources in Southern Indiana. Lemme, a former prosecutor with over two decades of experience in Clark and Jefferson counties, has dedicated his private practice to serving those in need. Pastor Nathan, who has served as lead pastor at Gilt Edge Baptist Church for six years, has been a passionate advocate for community empowerment and second chances.
Lemme emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating in the press release, “Far too often, people are held back by mistakes from their past, even when they have done the work to move forward. Our goal is to make the legal process more accessible so individuals can truly get a fresh start.” He also added, “Justice shouldn’t be reserved for those who can afford it. At JAM, we are making sure that those who need help the most can receive it without unnecessary barriers.”
Unlike traditional expungement clinics that occur infrequently, JAM will operate during evening hours (5 to 8 p.m.) and on weekends to accommodate individuals who may not have access to legal services during standard business hours. This approach will provide ongoing support and relief to those seeking a fresh start.
The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony on March 21, 2025 at noon at 518 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville, IN 47130, where Lemme, Nathan, and community leaders will formally introduce JAM and share their vision for the future.
