Rejection isn’t an end unto itself. So it goes for Murfreesboro, Tenn., band The Features, who self-released their second album, Some Kind of Salvation, a more sophisticated counterpart to Exhibit A, after lack of label interest.

They tracked Salvation with longtime friend Brian Carter and Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Langhorne Slim).

“We didn’t want it to be quite as in-your-face as the last record,” says singer-guitarist Matt Pelham. “We wanted to get back to where our first EP was (The Beginning).”

The Features are already back in the studio with Carter working on a follow-up that could be finished and out before year’s end. Meanwhile, Lucky Pineapple was recently featured as an emerging artist on SPIN Radio, and The Broken Spurs are working on the follow-up to Give It Your Blood. The Spurs rock the venerable Woody’s Roadhouse Big Broadcast on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 1-2 a.m. — as always, on the mighty fine 91.9 FM (nod to Woodrow).
