Your Future Our Clutter seems like a self-indulgent vanity project that sometimes reaches to the absurd (note the extended warbly keyboard outro to “Cowboy George”). On repeat listens, the album still sounds like a collection of drawn-out, wannabe-epic tracks that don’t move in a cohesive direction. The title of the album is appropriate: Production is muddled and cluttered and seems intentionally manipulated to sound that way. Loose ends are everywhere here, as each song is frayed, jagged and unspooled. The rhythm section is by far The Fall’s strongest feature. Singer Mark E. Smith is wholly unremarkable, and Peter “PP” Greenway plays a guitar the way Glenn Close made a romantic dinner in “Fatal Attraction.”
