Jack Harlow
Jack Harlow.

Last night, Jack Harlow performed at his very first Grammy Awards in Las Vegas, the same night as he was nominated for (but lost) two Grammys.

Watch a clip of Harlow performing his verse in “Industry Baby” below:

(You’ll notice he self-censors the verse about putting “my handprint on her asscheek” — well, kind of.)

You can also watch Lil Nas X’s full performance here:

Technically, this was only Harlow’s first in-person Grammys; he was nominated for (but lost) Best Rap Performance  for “WHATS POPPIN” last year, but the ceremony was virtual.

Sadly, Harlow lost in both categories in which he was nominated last night — Best Melodic Rap Performance for his verse in “Industry Baby,” which he lost to Kanye West for “Hurricane”; and Album of the Year for Lil Nas X’s Montero, which they lost to “We Are,” by Jon Batiste.

Speaking to Laverne Cox before the awards ceremony, Harlow told Cox that he was grateful to Lil Nas X for setting up his Grammys performance. He also spoke against homophobic critics of Lil Nas X, saying, “Wake the fuck up. Fuck’s wrong with you?

“It’s ridiculous. He’s trailblazing a path that, it’s sad it has to be trailblazed, but I think it’s amazing. He’s innovating the game, and it’s fresh, it’s powerful, and it’s necessary, so I love it,” Harlow said.

If last night’s performance wasn’t enough of a Harlow fix for you, he’ll be coming back to Louisville to headline Forecastle Festival?? on Friday, May 27.
