With “Premethazine,” TinyForest reinvents himself in a subtle, although evocative way. The music has the same relaxed vibe — that kind of feeling you get when you have an open schedule and a pocket full of fives, no worries in the world. Instead of relying on heavy trap work to propel the music, the dynamic shifts around simple, but steady, drum work and perhaps more jazz than R&B sampling. Still, the music here is as lush as before, with that same hazy sensation you get dozing off to a familiar movie on a Sunday afternoon. There is more than a hint of vaporwave here, although unlike that genre, which holds the sampled music in an almost ironic light, TinyForest has a clear reverence for his material that comes across as respectful and classy.
