The first detail I noticed when I put on this new two-song cassette from Ted Tyro is an analog hissing sound that resonates throughout the entire duration of the tape. I’m no audio technician, but I’m guessing that this is present because it was recorded on a four-track, and, in a weird way, this background noise is warm and enduring. The rhythm section on “Slow Country” reminds me of something you might hear on an early Talking Heads record, while vocally I’m constantly thinking of Mac Demarco. I’m not just referring to how his voice sounds aesthetically, but more so the way he agilely arranges the melodies in each verse and chorus. You get more of this on “Strong Woman”, making this easy to recommend.
