Shawn Sleeps Naked creates well-crafted slacker rock that sounds lifted straight from a mid-’90s indie film, and they do it well. You can imagine a scene opening: someone’s dirty room, clothes scattered about, band posters on the wall and probably some Christmas lights up for mood. It’s that kind of visual quality that informs the music of Burning, which may not have the cinematic scope of a Hans Zimmer-scored film … but it certainly has that rough, homespun feel that makes you feel at ease. This is the kind of music that you travel to, that moves you from one place to another — a companion to your thoughts.
