That’s the new Cypress Hill. First new group record in six years and newly signed by fellow green-piece follower Snoop Dogg, B-Real and Sen-Dog haven’t changed a bit. For some, this will be a great thing. Cheech & Chong samples lead into would-be smoke anthems; there are requisite appearances by rap-rock friendlies Tom Morello, Daron Malakian, Everlast and Mike Shinoda, and one bilingual cut with Pitbull and Marc Anthony. All the appropriate boxes are checked. Overall, Rise Up feels like trails we’ve already tread, and I haven’t smoked in a really long time. Only a mid-album run of songs (“Bang Bang”, “K.U.S.H.” and “Get Em Up”) provide any reason to hit play again.
