Ted Tyro

Throughout the years, Ted Tyro has shown a commitment to the craft of experimental pop songwriting. Through the sort of twee-indie that pays homage to both the loneliest Sebadoh songs and Mac DeMarco at his most demented, Ted Tyro’s latest EP is made up of short numbers with great hooks that eschew guitar bombast and use an ‘80s sonic aesthetic. The dreaminess of all the tracks is predicated largely on the delay and reverb-soaked vocals and shimmering guitars and keys. It’s danceable at times, which gives this four-song release an almost Joy Division-like quality, although with far less darkness. —Syd Bishop
