Ron Whitehead & The Storm Generation Band is back with Riding With Rebel Jesus, which features evocative, steady storytelling that unravels like a surreal, dreamlike Western. The album loosely sketches out a series of journeys sometimes physical, logistical and linear; sometimes spiritual, complex and searching. Guests such as Sheri Streeter add depth, while Whiteheads signature intensity shines next to the careful musicianship. The album grapples with rebellion, love, anger and identity deconstructing and reassessing what those things mean. Riding With Rebel Jesus is part concept album, part poetic puzzle, but its always engaging. Scott Recker
