Ken Allday is a versatile guitarist in several local bands including Curio Key Club, but his true love is gypsy jazz. Since Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt pioneered the genre, preserving gypsy jazz has evolved into something like an international cult. Alldays Some Originals, Some Django is steeped in that tradition, while offering a vision of his own style, featuring a quintet. Covers of Reinhardts Tiger Rag and All of Me are his own arrangements fresh, energetic takes. The Beach lacks the swing of the other originals with its drifting melodies, but its another place where Allday excels. Lara Kinne
