Alex Clark

Alex Clark’s Return to Storybook Land is filled with spacey, yet sugary, hook-driven rock and folk that dives into retro-revivalism, but feels modern in the way it subtly shifts through genres and sounds. The title track is two-and-a-half minutes of radio-ready guitar-pop, “Old Horse Won’t Ride” leans slightly into the less noodling, more groove-oriented side of jam-band territory and “Lonely Is A One-Man Job” dips into classic country. A singer-songwriter that uses various, but connected soundscapes to explore dense lyrics, Clark keeps everything moving on the 11-song, 36-minute Storybook Land, and it’s all the better for it.
