For 15 or so years — no one seems to know with any certainty — Leslie Millar and her husband have thrown what is arguably one of the best Thunder over Louisville events in the city.

Hidden in a hilltop clearing in the heart of Louisville's Phoenix Hill neighborhood overlooking downtown sits what is known as the Quonset Hut. It once was home to a turn-of-the-century brewery and beer garden and, most recently, the inexplicable pairing of an ice cream parlor and concrete statuary.

When Millar and her husband James acquired the property with the intent to use the space to house his fine art printmaking studio, the WWII military surplus corrugated steel half-cylindrical structure had sat vacant and derelict for the better part of seven years. "People still come up here looking for ice cream," Miller said. "When the weather gets warm, people drive right through the gate."

"As soon as we got this location, people said we had to have a Thunder party," Miller said. "We charge $10, we have some bands and we have some beer, and we just enjoy the space. King Kong has played almost every year.

Ethan Buckler (King Kong founder and former Slint bassist) is one of my oldest dearest friends." Buckler said. "We always look forward to it. It's the best show of the year."
