One can be forgiven for never having heard of Castle Freak, the 1995 low-budget, direct-to-video horror movie written and directed by Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), as it didn’t generate much interest when it was initially released. However, over the past 30 years, the movie has certainly gained a die-hard, rabid fan base and achieved cult classic status. Among its fans are Louisville’s own horror punk/crossover thrash maniacs Prayer Line.
Made up of Phil Olympia (vocals, guitar), Jake Hellman (vocals, bass), Jake Miller (guitar), and Dave Chale (drums), Prayer Line has honored the film in song. Titled “Castle Freak,” the song is taken from their recently released seven-song album Hell is Overflowing, which was recorded and mixed by Dave Chale at Deadbird Studios here in Louisville, KY.

Mixing actual movie footage with band performance, the video was created by musician, graphic designer, and artist Dennis Stein using all analog video equipment with no filters or AI.
In conjunction with Prayer Line, LEO Weekly presents the premiere of “Castle Freak.” Check it out now:
