Some days a record just falls into place. It strikes with the right mood at the right time, slicing a moment out of thin air and setting it into stone. Landing provides a perfect, thematically appropriate soundtrack for an evening of travel — an album’s worth of escape from the everyday. It would have been nice to have this one when I was stuck in the Boise airport for three hours this summer. The bass drives along, keeping the pace somewhere just north of mid-tempo, enough to get you groovin’ while you wait on your iced mocha at the airport coffee bar. Despite the goofy name, it appears Colin Newman has proven that there’s life after Wire.
