A singular vision seems to inform “Inner City Gods,” the newest from rapper Jordan Jetson, one that privileges smooth beats and a bouncy, tight lyrical flow. The narrative is nothing especially unique to hip-hop, with the regular accoutrements found — a grounded and somewhat socio-political look at urban life and the hope to rise above your means. But Jetson doesn’t seem especially interested in reinventing the wheel, opting instead to just make a great album, with tracks that move you, and a story that remains personal and honest to his experiences. As such, Jetson juggles more typical hip-hop fare with some pretty fun nerdy references to video games and the like. There is a classical Jay-Z vibe to this, as filtered through a nice Motown sound. The end result is a solid album from start to finish.
