Every couple years we are introduced to a new British ingénue. Some are in it for the long haul (Sade), others wither under the spotlight (Winehouse) or have a limited shelf life (Stansfield), while some are still too fresh for us to know how they will fare in the long run (Bailey Rae). Enter Lianne La Havas, whose star rose immediately after appearing on “Jools Holland” and opening for Bon Iver. Big Enough? is one of the more fully realized and satisfying debuts in some time. Hers is more in the Corinne Bailey Rae vein with an extra (solar) power ballad or two. La Havas strikes a great balance between playful (“Age,” in which she talks herself into accepting the affection of an older man), to the delicate (“No Room for Doubt” with Willy Mason — YouTube the solo version), to the bombast of “Forget.” Excellent.
