Carbonatix Pre-Player Loader

Since the release of last summer’s acclaimed, eponymous EP, Houndmouth has seen anticipation skyrocket for a full-length. Fans of the local farmland folk-rock band need to wait no more. Hills builds upon the bourbon-soaked lyrics and vocals of the EP, offering up visions of coal miners, trains and small-time crooks and drifters doing time. But as good as that is — and it is mighty fine, indeed — the true power of the band lies in its good old-fashioned musicianship. This lady and these gents know how to play, producing gritty guitar riffs, jaunty half-time beats and genuine emotions that hit you straight in the gizzard and make your head bob at the same time. Hills is easily one of the finest debuts of the year, from a band with facial hair and raw talent to spare.
