Derby City Chamber Music Festival

The Derby City Chamber Music Festival will offer a free performance of Handel’s Judas Maccabeus—a rarely presented oratorio that tells the story of Hanukkah with musical drama.

The event will take place at The Temple on U.S. 42 on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance is free to the public, with a suggested donation of $40 for adults and $10 for students.

The evening brings together a standout roster of performers, including Steven Paul Spears, Emily Albrink-Katz, Laura Atkinson, James Rittenhouse, and The Choir of St. Francis in the Fields.

“We’re honored to share this important work with the community during Hanukkah and hope it becomes a favorite annual tradition in Louisville,” says Nicholas Finch, Artistic Director of the Derby City Chamber Music Festival. “Judas Maccabeus represents resilience and unity, and our hope is that this performance will bring people together—both within the Jewish community and beyond—to experience the power of music as a bridge between faiths and traditions.”
