Boner City: Kentucky

(self-released)

If you were looking for a dose of in-your-face, no-nonsense punk fury, then Kentucky, the debut album by Boner City, is just what the doctor ordered. The energy is infectious, and it channels some amazing artists into a synthesized whole. There is more than a little hint of The Monorchid or Skull Kontrol, filtered through The Dead Kennedys, and ’50s rock. I can even make out a Plan-It-X Records-vibe here in the dynamic and positive atmosphere that the music engenders. As such, you can’t help but walk away from this without having a hook in your head, as Boner City offer the kind of punk that doesn’t shy away from pop, but doesn’t quite fit the pop-punk criteria, either. It’s a delicate balance, but one that they handle ably.
