Chik'n & Mi

1765 Mellwood Ave.

This Louisville hotspot has seen a lot of growth in recent years. Recently upgraded from its original location, Chik'n & Mi now has a fantastic covered patio along with its amazing ramen. As the website puts it “Chik'n & Mi specializes in making Asian inspired comfort foods, from Laotian spiced fried chicken to hearty and flavorful ramen noodle soups.”

Aji Sushi & Asian Cuisine

5610 Outer Loop

This sushi restaurant has a large assortment of Asian cuisine. The restaurant said it best on its Facebook: “When you're looking for tasty, traditional sushi, pad thai, ramen noodle soup, pho, fried rice, and much more, we are prepared and ready to serve you.”

This Vietnamese restaurant is focused on traditional and modern dishes, combining flavors and techniques with local and market-fresh ingredients. You can get a customized bowl of your favorite pho, or trust the chef and try the Short Rib Pho.

Heart & Soy / Roots

Looking for more vegetarian or vegan options? Check out Heart & Soy and Roots, two restaurants in the same building on Bardstown Road. Roots is known for “upscale vegetarian dining” while Heart & Soy is more for quick dine-in or take-away. But both of these options offered delicious pho on their dinner menu.

This one of a kind Japanese restaurant offers a traditional Japanese experience with a contemporary touch. The restaurant’s head chef was born and raised in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan where traditions run strong. It almost goes without saying, they also have amazing ramen.

Vietnam Kitchen

Vietnam Kitchen is a Louisville staple found near Iroquois Park, and among their many dishes is a fantastic pho. Michael C. Powell put it best when he previously wrote about Vietnam Kitchen: “Behold, the gold standard. The Cadillac of international, South End, family restaurants […] Vietnam Kitchen has enjoyed an earned reputation — an unassuming, no-frills strip mall cafe winner of no less than a million LEO Readers Choice awards.”

Juno Japanese

Juno Japanese restaurant has two locations, and both are quality. Juno strives to serve “exquisite Japanese foods” according to their website. They also have ramen dishes with three flavor options: Shoyu, Tonkotsu, and Spicy Miso.

This Japanese Hibachi and ramen restaurant has great prices and even better menu options. You can customize your ramen bowl with all kinds of flavors, from spicy to garlic, with plenty of meat, seafood, and veggie options.

This place has fun decor and serious flavor, with traditional ramen, rice bowls, handmade gyoza and buns.

Serving delicious Vietnamese cuisine for over 40 years, this restaurant at the end of Bardstown Road is as authentic as they come. Check out their dinner menu for pho that comes with “rice noodles in a rich beef broth with cilantro, bean sprouts, and green onion. Meats include beef or meatballs.”

This modern Japanese sushi bar on Bardstown Road takes its food very seriously, with meticulously hand-formed sushi. It’s no surprise they pay similar attention to their Tonkotsu Ramen and Gyoza.

This Butchertown restaurant specializes in Vietnamese street food, and has an amazing bar and patio. Now we know this is a list about pho, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t recommend the Bahn Mi with a side of pho for dipping (a better version of a French Dip).

This ramen pop-up shop appears regularly at the Louisville StrEatery in the Beechmont neighborhood. Check out their Facebook page for dates and times, and swing by for some yummy ramen, specialty spices, and swag.

Get authentic Korean cuisine and delicious Japanese ramen at this New Albany restaurant. As the website put it, “Our restaurant is known for its variety in taste and high quality fresh ingredients. Come and experience our friendly atmosphere and excellent service.”

Wild Ginger has been a staple of Bardstown Road for a long time, and we’re not surprised. The sushi spot says on its website that it offers everything “from sushi to Asian Fusion to sake — even dessert.” They also have a great spicy kimchi beef ramen.

Nam Nam Cafe is a locally owned family restaurant. The Head Chef David Truong works hard to bring what his website describes as “healthy, affordable asian cuisine.” Be sure to try their pho, and maybe a few dumplings… ok, a lot of dumplings.
